Giampaolo Seguso belongs to the dynasty which has been working on Murano for six centuries.
He was born in 1942, the son of Archimede. He worked with his father for nearly 30 years.
In 1993 he began his individual way into research and study in the furnaces of Seguso Viro with his three sons.
In 1994 his works, the fruit of his research into the technique called incalmo, are collected in the volume “L’Incalmo” edited by Rosa Barovier Mentasi.
In 1995, together with architect Toni Zuccheri, the objects called “Insieme 95” were born.
In 1996, at the Spazio Olivetti Gallery in St. Marks Square, Venice he presented “Vetri con Anima”, works on which, for this first time his poems are engraved.
In 1998 he exhibited the pendulums “The Four Seasons” at the Biennale d’Arte in Venice - “Aperto Vetro.”
In 2001 he published the volume “La Ragnatela” edited by Rosa Barovier Mentasi which is the fruit of study and research into the Murano filigrana technique utilizing the same methodology used in “L’Incalmo.”
In 2003 he was selected to be the subject of a student thesis at the University Ca’Foscari, studying his poetry and glass.
In 2004 he created “I Turneriani,” an homage to Turner, which was then exhibited at the Correr Museum in Venice during the exhibition dedicated to J.M. William Turner.
In 2008 he published, “My Page is Glass,” a book dedicated to his poetry and verses, fusing glass with his words. Also in 2008, The Murano Glass Museum exhibited his sculpture “Time is a Place,” a large hour-glass.
He has held conferences in 2005 at Bologna, for the Cenacolo Cultural Association at the University of Bologna with the title of “My Page is Glass,” in 2006 at the Abate Zanetti School of Murano on the theme of “Murano, The Art of the Spirit”, in 2008 in Centro Internazionale del Vetro in Padova and in 2009 at University of Padua.
In these last ten years he has held exhibitions in Florence, Bergamo, Milan, Bologna, Freudenstadt, London, San Francisco, Tampa, Farmington, Stoccard, Hamburg, Oslo, San Paolo de Brazil, Boca Raton, Frankfurt and Tilburg.
In 2011 he was selected by the city of Venice to make the gift for Pope Benedict XVI, in honor of his first papal visit. Giampaolo works daily in his studio located in Murano at Fondamenta Radi and serves as the creative soul of the Seguso Company.
