The profound spirituality that characterizes Morrocan culture is the result of the interaction between ancient philosophies and religions. By embracing all aspects of life, spirituality has always played an important role in all art forms and in the way the representation of the real are both conceived and portrayed in the visual and decorative arts. Representations that tend to be far from the simple reproduction of the real. Illusion is not the aim; stone, wood, fabric, paint or ceramics are intended only to suggest an ideal and not to represent the actual form. Depictions of human subjects become blurred and suggested while two dimensional elaborated abstract geometric patterns, flowers and foliage lush in details, acquire a deep and philosophical meaning. It is from these traditional concepts that the sophisticated Calligraphy has developed as an art form. Moroccan textiles, jewellery and, furniture embellished by rich intricate patterns, exquisitely designed and crafted have always inspired and affected the other arts. Its extraordinary uniqueness together with the profound meaning associated with the art of crafting that gives the objects a significance that surpasses its material meaning.
