Live Music

Alongside its exhibitions, ArtMoorHouse presents a programme of live music at Moor House. Lunchtime concerts in the reception of the building offer those who work in and pass through it a moment to pause and listen.

Live at ArtMoorHouse

A site-responsive sound project by ArtMoorHouse in collaboration with Antimo Magnotta

Live at ArtMoorHouse extends the programme into the field of listening. Originally conceived by pianist and composer Antimo Magnotta and developed collaboratively with ArtMoorHouse, the project approaches music not as a traditional concert format but as a site-responsive artistic practice. Presented through a series of live lunchtime performances in the lobby, the piano becomes both instrument and listening device, responding in real time to the acoustic, architectural and social life of the building.

Here, space and community act as active participants. The presence of those who work in and pass through the building — colleagues, visitors, conversations and daily movements — shapes each performance, influencing not only the sounds recorded but also the rhythm, pacing and improvisation of the pianist.

Each session is captured live, without overdubs or post-production. Ambient elements — footsteps, voices, security radios, distant sirens and the continuous pulse of the city beyond the glass façades — are treated as compositional material rather than background, forming a sonic portrait of a specific place and moment. Architecture functions as collaborator as much as setting: its resonance, materials and rhythms inform the unfolding of each piece. No two performances are identical.

The resulting recordings form both an album and a living sound document of Moor House, with the potential to evolve into an ongoing ambient soundscape for the building itself.

More than a series of concerts, Live at ArtMoorHouse reflects ArtMoorHouse's wider commitment to interdisciplinary, site-responsive practices, where art does not simply occupy space, but reveals and reimagines it.
